Adeline Loizeau grew up in the Charente vineyards where her parents were winegrowers.
A childhood spent among the vineyards inevitably fuelled her enduring passion for vines and wines, cognac and the local community, that remains to this day.
“Waiting for the vines to grow, then waiting for the cognac to age in the barrels of fine-grained oak is all about time and savoir-faire. And it’s the most beautiful sight I can see.” Adeline Loizeau
She transformed her devotion into a career, deciding to become an agricultural engineer, and developing profound expertise in wine and wine-making.
Now, as the Director of Supply and Wine Relations at Martell, Adeline is charged with ensuring a level of continuity with the winegrowers.
Her goal is to build, and build on, enduring relationships with a community of Martell cognac growers, and lovers.
Through such relationships, nurtured through regular dialogue and exchanges, she has created bonds with Maison Martell’s partner winegrowers over several generations.
“These contribute to the excellence of our products,” Adeline explains. “Together, our role is to perpetuate this heritage, taking into account the challenges of tomorrow, whether by adapting to climate change or by continuing to limit our carbon impact.”
For Adeline, Martell’s sustainable approach – to the environment and land, the Cognac region, and her business relationships — is vital for promulgating the House’s proud legacy, which has continued uninterrupted for more than 300 years.
“We are only passing through here, which is why I would like to pass on with my teams the values of transmission and innovation. We are contributing to an ever-more sustainable viticulture, not only for us, but for the generations to come,” she says.
Indeed, it is the vines of today that will make the cognac of tomorrow. With a heritage to preserve and a future to forge, when it comes to sustainability, there’s no time like the present to act.
