Every year, in homage to its historic ties with China, Maison Martell releases an exclusive edition of its most exceptional cognac L’OR de Jean Martell, inspired by that year’s zodiac animal. In 2024, the House celebrates the Year of the Dragon, probably the most emblematic of all the animals of the Chinese zodiac, with a rare and prestigious edition available in strictly limited quantities: fewer than 750 pieces individually numbered.
Golden amber with mahogany highlights.
Fresh floral aromas merge with intense, generous notes of tamarind, lotus seeds and longan, also known as dragon’s eye – and dried fruit. Spices and noble wood – Chinese cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, cedar and sandalwood – bring warmth.
Tastes of candied and dried fruit are followed by berries, while soft spices and noble wood hint at warmth. Finally, the exceptional length on the palate evokes the immortal nature of the Chinese dragon.
The challenge for Christophe Valtaud, our Cellar Master, was to retain L’Or de Jean Martell essence while enriching it and magnifying some of the cognac’s characteristics evoking the personality of the dragon. To achieve this, he made a careful selection of very old eaux-de-vie drawn from different years of the Dragon. This process required several months’ worth of work and an outstanding expertise to combine the intensity and elegance of the original cognac with the warmth, generosity and aromatic balance, reflecting the controlled and benevolent power associated with the Dragon.
An exceptional cognac to savour neat, for a sensory experience like no other.
